Web Design for Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance
Hernandez Web Design was contracted to create a website for Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance to improve upon their existing one page landing page. Their existing simple design told people where to find their monthly meetings and included an email address. The goal was to expand their online presence and help them to share more about the nonprofit to expand their reach.
In the new web design for Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance we wanted to integrate an easier way for people to sign up and renew their membership, a way for people to see upcoming events, a home page that could easily be modified by nonprofit volunteers, contact information that could easily be accessed by people, and a way for them to communicate about their monthly meetings.
I designed a website in WordPress using StudioPress on the Genesis Framework. StudioPress allows me to create a well built site that is search engine optimized with a child theme that is already for me to customize for my clients. This option makes it easy for me to make a site that is well designed and yet easy for clients to update on their own. Since this was a priority we chose a theme that would also allow them to easily make modifications directly from WordPress rather than creating the site with custom HTML coding within the theme.
The home page includes quick links to other pages of the site on the left side of the site. It also includes an email collection point so that they can continue to build their email list (on the right side). These sidebars appear on every page of the site.
We also included a brief summary of the site so that people know what the site is about. We keep the middle information available for the upcoming meetings or events. This information is regularly updated by Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance volunteers.
We also included all of the events in the sidebar so that people can see all of upcoming events. Additionally, we’ve included the option for people to renew or sign up to join Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance as well.
In the bottom section we also talk about the 501(c) 3 status of Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance as well as the mission of the organization.
The footer section appears at the bottom of every page. I’ve included the contact information as well as the meeting location so that it is easy for people looking to find the meeting site to easily access the location right on the home page. (There is also a map on the events page as well).
The Our Events page was designed for people to see all of the upcoming events. I used an event plugin that allows for recurring events as well as one time events with different views to show on the “events” page. We have opted to show the agenda so that people can see all of the upcoming events. The individual event explains the event in more detail and includes a map of the event location.
The Membership page is an informational page that discusses the reason why people may be interested in membership of Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance. It also introduces the opportunity to purchase the membership fees.
The Join page is where people can fill out the online application to join Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance. We also have included the links to the online store where people can purchase their online membership.
The Contact page includes the contact information for Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance, along with a map to their meeting location. We also included an online form for people to fill out to contact the volunteers who work with the organization with any questions or requests for information.
There’s even more to the web design for Gulf Coast Orchid Alliance, these highlights hit the areas that create the balance in the design from what they originally had to the new site.
